The Spanish shipping company Boluda Corporación Marítima (BMT) and the Moroccan port operator Marsa Maroc have signed a strategic cooperation alliance.
Under the terms of the agreement, the subsidiary Marsa Maroc International Logistics (MMIL) will acquire a 45% stake in BMT’s share capital. The transaction value is reported to be around € 80 million. Boluda was advised on the transaction by Banca March and CMS.
Boluda will continue to be responsible for the operational management of the business. For its part, Marsa Maroc will contribute its experience and will help to strengthen the alliance and promote regional growth by generating commercial synergies.
Boluda Maritime Terminals offers comprehensive port management and port logistics services through nine terminals located in strategic locations in Spain and the Canary Islands. In 2024, the facilities handled more than 1 million TEU, underlining their strategic role in freight transportation between mainland Spain and the Canary Islands.
The strategic alliance between Marsa Maroc and Boluda Corporación Marítima opens the way to significant synergies as it combines the respective competencies and complementary strengths in terminal management. Both groups have a clearly aligned strategic direction, driven by a shared ambition to strengthen their position in the Morocco-Spain corridor.
For BMT and Marsa Maroc, this alliance will strengthen the presence of both companies on both sides of the strait and consolidate their regional positioning. Together, they will operate a total of 34 terminals in 20 ports in the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands and Africa, taking a significant step forward in their expansion process.
Boluda Maritime Terminals currently operates cargo terminals in the ports of Las Palmas, La Palma, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Seville, Vilagarcía, Cádiz and Santander. In addition, the transportation and logistics division includes 11 maritime lines operated by the Boluda Lines shipping division. These connections link the Iberian Peninsula with the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Northern Europe, Italy, the West African coast and Cape Verde.
