Maritime Cyprus leading the way towards a new era

Amidst the evolving landscape of the maritime industry, Cyprus remains steadfast as an admirable example of maritime excellence. With a robust ship registry and a vibrant maritime cluster, Cyprus has firmly established itself as a premier maritime hub.

Notable achievements of the current year include a substantial increase in tonnage registered under the Cyprus flag, attributed to strong global shipowner support and new partnerships. The Cyprus Tonnage Tax System has seen a 14% growth, now encompassing 420 companies, thus playing a vital role in the nation’s economy.

To further boost its competitiveness, Cyprus has established advisory committees focused on enhancing the quality and competitiveness of its maritime sector. A key initiative is the full digitization of the Shipping Deputy Ministry by 2024, aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing bureaucracy. The newly operational One-Stop Shipping Centre streamlines services across government departments, improving service delivery to shipping companies and related entities.

Cyprus also acknowledges the importance of maintaining the quality of its fleet, consistently achieving “White List” status in the Paris and Tokyo MoUs on Port State Control. The nation’s top priority remains maintaining and improving the exceptional quality for which the Cyprus flag is renowned. Cyprus’s rise in the Paris MoU’s White List ranking reflects its steadfast focus on maritime safety and security standards, further reinforced by legislative measures to enhance these standards and protect the marine environment.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the Cyprus Ship Registry reflects on a legacy of maritime excellence and sets ambitious goals for the future. The maritime achievements and aspirations of Cyprus underscore its dedication to innovation, sustainability, and resilience, ensuring a promising trajectory on the global maritime stage. As the nation continues to navigate the seas of progress, its commitment to excellence and sustainability ensures a bright future ahead.
