Logistics expert Silke Fischer has a new job: she is moving from the German Logistics Association (BVL) to the digital company Rain.
There she will take on the role of Business Director Logistics. Fischer has over 30 years of experience in maritime logistics and has worked for Maersk and Leschaco, among others.
At Rain (shortly before Rapid Innovation), a Berlin-based company specializing in automation, Fischer will be responsible for the strategic and content-related orientation of digital logistics and SCM solutions. Her many years of expertise will enable Rain to tap into further potential in the logistics sector. The company pursues a data-driven approach that “ideally complements” Fischer’s expertise, as Rain announced. The aim is to give logistics and SCM managers access to high-quality, previously unavailable real-time data, which should improve risk management and increase the predictability of processes.
Fischer has many years of management experience
Fischer has been working in maritime logistics for over 30 years. With a degree in engineering economics, she has held management positions at several global companies. At Geodis, she was responsible for sales as Director Sales Contract Logistics, while at Leschaco she expanded the business as Head of Global Product Management & Corporate Customs. Fischer held various management positions at the liner shipping company Maersk for over eight years. She has been Managing Director of BVL since April 2024.
“When I look at the logistics industry, I see enormous potential – but also challenges that we urgently need to tackle together,” said Fischer about her new role at Rain. “There is still a lot of room for digitalization to improve processes here. Too often I still find manual activities because of outdated systems that keep data ‘trapped’ in silos instead of using it for better planning and automation. Rain has shown me how existing systems and standard software can be enhanced quickly and effectively through innovative use of data, AI and smart apps. I would have liked to have had these possibilities much earlier. Together, we are now ensuring that we make faster progress in logistics and need significantly less Excel and emails to master this complex job.
“A unique expert”
Mathias Sinn, founder and Managing Director of Rain, welcomed the new member of his company. “With Silke Fischer, we are gaining a unique expert with extensive industry knowledge, strategic vision and great passion – a perfect addition to Rain,” he said. “In logistics as in digital product development, there are countless details that need to be understood in order to quickly and noticeably improve mostly known problems. Together with Silke’s in-depth expertise, we are now ensuring that truly relevant data is available in a quality that enables our customers to solve key challenges in the industry: automating manual work steps, making economic growth scalable and achieving differentiating competitive advantages with their own real-time data.”
