MAN Multi Fluid Monitor: Engine tool gets an upgrade

MAN Energy Solutions has announced the launch of a new version of the “MAN Fluid Monitor”.

Previously, the tool introduced by MAN Energy Solutions in 2020 enabled continuous lubrication oil monitoring in four-stroke engines. Now the company is extending the application of this oil monitoring technology to two-stroke engines (bearing lubrication circuit) – a key area for commercial shipping.

As a result, the product is now called “MAN Multi Fluid Monitor” and is positioned as a cross-brand solution (OEM) that can monitor engines of different generations and configurations as well as fuels. Fleet managers can monitor the condition of the engines in their entire fleet using the same system and the same approach.

MAN expands the system’s functions

The “MAN Multi Fluid Monitor” retains all the functions of its predecessor. It continuously monitors the lubricating oil condition of the engines in real time. Irregularities can be detected immediately and failures prevented before they affect operation. If an anomaly is detected, and at an early stage – well ahead of what conventional oil monitoring systems can detect – the system generates a warning for the operator, along with technical recommendations. This helps to prevent the occurrence of major damage and unplanned plant shutdowns.

“Oil contamination reflects the deterioration of the engine condition,” says Arnauld Filancia, President of MAN Energy Solutions France. The monitor system thus goes from being a specialised solution for four-stroke engines to a broadly applicable solution that also includes two-stroke engines and other industrial equipment. “The system has been a great success and has already been installed in several hundred engines of various brands worldwide,” says Filancia.

App for smartphones being tested

A smartphone app is also currently being tested by customers to provide technical recommendations from experts and comprehensive maintenance instructions at any time of the day and can be accessed from anywhere – even offline. The tool should be available in the near future, according to the company.

“The ‘MAN Multi Fluid Monitor’ is a perfect example of how MAN Energy Solutions anticipates the needs of a constantly changing market,” says Filancia. The solution helps to turn reactive maintenance into increasingly predictive maintenance and thus optimises the operation of engines and industrial plants.
