For around 117 years, one of Germany’s most renowned engine manufacturers operated under the name MAN – an abbreviation for “Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg.” As of Wednesday, that name is history.
Over the years, the name of the propulsion specialist evolved several times – most recently from MAN Diesel & Turbo to MAN Energy Solutions – but the acronym MAN remained. Until yesterday. As the Augsburg-based company announced, it will now operate under the name Everllence.
To mark the occasion, CEO Uwe Lauber unveiled the new company nameplate at headquarters in Augsburg. At the same time, the company’s other European sites in Oberhausen, Berlin, Zurich, and Copenhagen were also renamed.
“Our name change is the logical next step in implementing our strategy ‘Moving big things to zero,’ which focuses on decarbonization and efficiency solutions,” said Lauber. “Especially for sectors of the global economy dealing with so-called ‘hard-to-abate’ climate-damaging emissions. Today, we are no longer known solely for engines and turbomachinery, but also as a provider of large heat pumps, CO₂ capture systems, a driver of climate-neutral shipping, and a contributor to the hydrogen ramp-up. Our new name, ‘Everllence,’ expresses this transformation.”
MAN Energy Solutions becomes a decarbonization solutions provider
Gunnar Kilian, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Everllence and Chief Human Resources Officer at Volkswagen Group, added: “The name Everllence reflects the company’s current development into one of the world’s leading providers of sustainable decarbonization solutions. At the same time, it honors the pioneering industrial work demonstrated by the workforce throughout the company’s 250-year success story. With a strong focus on climate protection and as a driver of industrial value creation, Everllence will continue to promote the sustainability and future viability of German mechanical engineering and support the global energy transition.”
Everllence remains part of the Volkswagen Group. The company’s product and service portfolio will remain unchanged.
What’s behind the name Everllence?
According to the company, the new brand name “Everllence” combines the English words “Ever” (meaning “always,” “continuously,” or “ever”) and “Excellence” – two core elements of its identity.
“Ever” reflects the company’s more than 250-year history – from the first diesel engine to the first ocean-going diesel ship, the first wind turbine, the first gas engine, and the world’s largest river-water heat pump. Innovation, engineering excellence, and a pioneering spirit have always driven the company forward.
“Excellence” represents both a high standard of technological ambition and outstanding corporate leadership at all levels – from internal processes and interactions with colleagues, partners, and customers, to leadership culture and corporate citizenship.
