MACS and Stinnes launch their own agency brand

The Hamburg-based MPP shipping company MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping and its Rostock-based subsidiary Hugo Stinnes Schiffahrt are restructuring their agency network for liner services between the Iberian Peninsula and the US Gulf and Africa.

MACS took over Hugo Stinnes via the holding company Vineta GmbH at the end of 2017.  The two shipping companies will operate together under their own agency brand in Spain, according to a statement. Under the name Stinnes & MACS Agencia Marítima, based in Bilbao/Spain, this agency will take over all marketing, sales and port operations activities for the shipping companies’ two MPP liner services in cooperation with the previous Hugo Stinnes agency Noatum Maritime Spain.

Stinnes & MACS Agencia Marítima will, therefore, represent the HSS SANMEX service from Spain/Portugal to the Mexico/US Gulf region and vice versa and the MACS MPP service from Spain (excluding Galicia) to and from Southern Africa. For MACS, the Galicia region will remain under the representation of Comarsa, Vigo, and Portugal, which will be represented by MACS’ own agency, MCPAS, with offices in Leixoes and Lisbon.

MACS previously represented by Vasco Catalana

Since 1983, Vasco Catalana has represented MACS on the Spanish market. Over the past 40 years, Vasco has developed the South African market for MACS with great success, and the company is grateful for the support, according to the statement.

MACS CEO Dietrich Scheder-Bieschin said: “The establishment of an MACS agency in Spain marks the end of an era. Vasco Catalana has been a successful MACS agent since 1983 and we are very grateful to the Arzaloza family and the Vasco team for the loyalty and support they have given MACS over four decades.”

Jens Kroczek, Managing Director of Hugo Stinnes Schiffahrt GmbH, emphasised: “We are very grateful that Noatum has given us the opportunity to operate under our own name, Stinnes, in the Spanish market. We are certain that this will strengthen and expand the position of Stinnes.”
