Liebherr completes mobile harbor crane number 2,000

The Liebherr plant in Rostock can announce a milestone: The LHM 600 built for the Italian steel company Marcegaglia is the two thousandth mobile harbor crane in the company’s 50-year history.

The crane has a lifting capacity of 154 t and a reach of 61 t. It is suitable for handling ships up to New Panamax size. The Ravenna-based company will use the crane to handle steel goods such as coils, sheets and strips. It is the sixth crane to be supplied by Liebherr to the steelworks in Italy.

The hydrostatic drive and control systems of the LHM 600 enable precise and seamless goods handling, according to Liebherr. The aim is to achieve more flexible and smoother work processes overall. A “highlight” of the crane is the unique, handcrafted design of the slewing platform, which is inspired by the maritime heritage of the two cities of Rostock and Ravenna and gives the machine a touch of artistry. It features a two-sided motif: one side is Italian and includes a Ravenna landmark, the Basilica di Sant’Apollinare Nuovo. There are also dock workers involved in port logistics and an Italian inscription. The other side contains a German text and a lighthouse highlighting the maritime and industrial tradition of Liebherr Rostock, where the crane originates from.

Sixth LHM from Liebherr for Marcegaglia

The two companies have enjoyed a partnership of over 20 years, which began with the delivery of the first LHM 400 in 2001. Since then, four more cranes have been added to the fleet, and the new LHM 600 is the sixth mobile harbor crane to expand the company’s logistics capacities. A handover ceremony is planned for the summer in Ravenna to celebrate the collaboration between the two companies, which are rooted in family tradition. “This milestone, the LHM 600, exemplifies our commitment to providing our customers with forward-looking solutions,” said a delighted Andreas Ritschel, Sales Manager for Mobile Harbour Cranes at Liebherr-Rostock GmbH.

By integrating the crane into its logistics network, Marcegaglia will further optimize its processes and support the company’s strategic goals. In conjunction with Liebherr’s global service network, the company can also count on consistent support and maintenance for its new crane.
