With “Martta”, the shortsea shipping company Langh Ship is completing a series of newbuildings that will also feature an on-board CO2 capture system.
“Martta” has now been delivered by the Chinese shipyard PaxOcean Zhoushan and christened at the same time. It is the third vessel in a series of three container feeder.
Previously, “Ingrid” and “Lene ” had already been delivered and chartered to the carrier Borchard. All three sister ships in this series – co-financed by the German development bank Kfw IPEX – will be used in feeder traffic in Europe and will mainly operate in the Mediterranean, at least for the time being. Flexible cargo holds with movable cell guides are intended to ensure high efficiency in the charterer’s fleet operations.
In addition, all three ships are equipped with the hybrid scrubber from Langh Tech – a sister company of the shipping company – and are prepared for an on-board CO₂ separation system. Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, Chief Executive Officer of Langh Ship, said: “With this series of ships, we had a vision to push energy efficiency and emissions reduction further than before. The PaxOcean shipyard has been a valuable partner in this. Their expertise in shipbuilding has resulted in technologically advanced vessels that are an excellent addition to our fleet. We are delighted that all three ships will soon be in operation.”
The feeder project is one of two measures on the Langh fleet. The shipping company is also active in the shortsea/MM market and has recently completed a series of newbuildings.
