The logistics group and seafreight market leader Kuehne+Nagel is responding to export growth in Iceland by opening its first independent branch there.
The office and warehouse are located at the port of Hafnafjördur, as the Swiss-based group announced today. From there, a team of 13 experienced specialists will process services in the areas of sea and air freight as well as customs solutions.
Iceland is not completely new territory for the Group, which says it has been present there “for decades”. Now, however, a strategic step is to be taken. Helgi Ingólfsson, Cluster Manager for Sweden and Iceland, sees Iceland as a market with great potential. “We want to support our customers in Iceland in exploiting their growth potential, as they can benefit from our expertise in navigating and planning their supply chains.”
Iceland’s export industry is experiencing significant growth. The tourism sector is flourishing and is contributing to a higher demand for imported general cargo, it continues. The logistics provider also hopes that fish farming, which produced 54,800 tons of fish in 2024, will continue to grow in the coming years. Valdimar Óskarsson, Managing Director for Iceland, commented: “After many years in the Icelandic market, we are delighted to become part of the Kuehne+Nagel family. Together with my team of industry experts in sea and air logistics and customs, we look forward to strengthening the Icelandic import and export sector.”
In seafreight logistics, Kuehne+Nagel will offer services for part and full loads from Denmark, Sweden, Belgium and the Netherlands. The export market is mainly focused on reefer containers that meet the requirements of the fishing industry. “As the largest airfreight logistics provider, Kuehne+Nagel Iceland will further strengthen its global team by offering connections to world markets through its perishables gateways in London, Amsterdam and Liège, with a focus on the export of farmed fish,” the statement said.
