The South Korean ferry operator KT Marine has ordered a new fast ferry from Damen Shipyards. It is due to be delivered before the end of this year.
The ferry is of the Fast Ferry 4212 (FFe 4212) type. The new vessel will be the fifth to be built for the South Korean shipping company[ds_preview].
The FFe 4212 is a 42 m long aluminum catamaran that can carry up to 423 passengers and reach a top speed of 40 knots. The power required for this is provided by four main engines, which deliver 5,760 kW to four water jets. The new fast ferry will be deployed on a route between the port of Yeosu and Geomundo Island (off the south coast of South Korea).
KT Marine will take delivery of the vessel in the middle of the year
As with its other best-selling ship designs, Damen is also building the FFe 4212 from stock. The ship ordered by KT Marine is already under construction at the Damen Song Cam shipyard in Vietnam and is expected to be ready for delivery in mid-2024.
“Damen’s Fast Ferry 4212 is characterized by quality and delivery time,” said Og Yeol Bag, President of KT Marine, after signing the contract with Damen. “Furthermore, our management team strongly believes that choosing Damen for the Fast Ferry 4212 will enable us to bring our service to the highest standard and provide comfort and reliability to our valued customers.”
