An MPP carrier in the Krey fleet

Krey Schiffahrt has newbuildings equipped with Inmarsat technology

The German shipping company Krey Schiffahrt is equipping four heavy-lift vessels currently under construction with the “NexusWave” connectivity service from Inmarsat Maritime, a provider of mobile satellite communications.

The aim is to increase the operational efficiency of the new project cargo vessels through a permanently available, high-performance data connection.

Krey Schiffahrt from Leer currently operates eight multipurpose heavy lift vessels and is expanding its fleet against the backdrop of increasing demands in the project cargo market. The newbuildings have been designed for high operational flexibility. Optimized hull shapes and innovative propulsion systems are designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 35% compared to ships of comparable tonnage.

“NexusWave” is a fully managed, bundled multi-network service that combines global coverage, defined performance levels and unlimited data volumes. Among other things, this should ensure that performance monitoring as well as energy and emissions management systems remain reliably connected at all times, regardless of the sailing area. In addition to operational applications, the service is also intended for use by the crew.

“Our new heavy-lift vessels are designed to implement a wide variety of demanding projects with a high level of efficiency. Reliable connectivity is essential for this,” emphasizes Captain Maxim Babenko, Nautical Superintendent (ISM/ISPS) at Krey Schiffahrt. “NexusWave’s fully managed service with unlimited data volume ensures that our critical systems are connected at all times, while helping to improve crew welfare. Working with Inmarsat gives us the security of a centralized, reliable provider for all our onboard communications.”

Inmarsat Maritime points to the increasing need of modern ships for powerful data connectivity. “State-of-the-art ships require state-of-the-art connectivity,” explains Jan-Henning Stehr, Sales Manager Europe at Inmarsat Maritime. “For Krey Schiffahrt’s new project cargo vessels, NexusWave provides a seamless high-speed connection that supports fuel efficiency, continuous monitoring and crew well-being worldwide.”
