Kongsberg equips ten PSV newbuildings for Capital Offshore

Kongsberg Maritime has received an order worth the equivalent of almost €70m from Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in China.

The company will supply extensive equipment for a fleet of ten platform supply vessels (PSVs) to be built for Greek shipowner Capital Offshore.

The order amounts to NOK 800 million, which corresponds to approximately €67.55m, and includes propulsion, automation and energy systems. The vessels are destined for the Brazilian market and will expand Capital Offshore’s fleet of over 100 vessels. The shipping company plans to expand in the oil and gas business.

“We are proud to play a key role in achieving these goals by delivering a comprehensive package of integrated technologies for the new fleet of platform supply vessels,” said Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, President of Kongsberg Maritime. “This significant investment in a series of ten new PSVs signals Capital Offshore’s intention to be a major player in the future offshore business. We look forward to building on our long-standing and successful collaboration with Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in China on this exciting project.”

Kongsberg supplies comprehensive systems for Capital Offshore

In order to achieve the most energy-efficient ship operation possible while ensuring a high level of safety, each of the ten ships (type MMC 897 C, 95 metres long) will have a fully integrated electrical system, propulsion and energy control. According to Kongsberg, this integration ensures that all components work together seamlessly to optimise performance and safety.

Kongsberg Maritime’s electrical system on these vessels enables optimal, clean and efficient operation through the Energy Storage System (ESS). The ESS provides energy for peak shaving, spinning reserve and power boost. The battery hybrid capability offers operational flexibility, allowing the vessels to run on a single engine or have full flexibility in engine selection, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The propulsion system for each vessel will consist of two US 255 azimuth thrusters, a single ULE PM 155 retractable azimuth thruster and two TT2200 tunnel thrusters, all powered by permanent magnet motors.

The DC hybrid electrical plant includes generators, DC switchboards, transformers and energy storage systems and is fully integrated with the propulsion system and DP system to optimise operability, performance and fuel efficiency.

“Ensuring the highest quality”

Gerry Ventouris, General Manager at Capital Offshore, said: “We want to ensure that these vessels are of the highest quality and the partnership with Kongsberg Maritime is an important step in achieving this goal. This collaboration reflects our commitment to excellence as we expand our activities in the offshore sector.”

Zheng Jinzhu, General Manager of Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, added: “The partnership between Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and Kongsberg Maritime has a long history. The cooperation between the two parties on this project is based on Kongsberg’s cutting-edge technology, expertise and proven track record with customers worldwide. We look forward to continuing to work with Kongsberg’s expert team in the successful delivery of the new vessels.”
