Integrated package from Wärtsilä for Pritchard-Gordon tankers

Technology group Wärtsilä is to supply an integrated propulsion package for a new vessel for UK-based tanker owner and operator Pritchard-Gordon Tankers.

The integrated propulsion package includes the powerful and fuel-flexible Wärtsilä 32 main engine. This is the third order in a series of three vessels, all with a similar scope of supply. These three 10,600 dwt newbuildings are the latest in Pritchard-Gordon Tankers’ (PGT) fleet renewal program, which is focused on efficiency and lower emissions. This latest order has been booked by Wärtsilä in Q3 2024.

“The tanker industry is under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint and we are committed to a highly efficient fleet that offers more flexibility for new sustainable technologies and future fuels,” said Richard Groves, New Build Manager at Pritchard Gordon Tankers.

In addition to the main gearbox and shaft generator system, the package also includes the controllable pitch propeller

In addition to the Wärtsilä 32 main engine, the fully integrated package for each of the three vessels includes the gearbox, shaft generator system, controllable pitch propeller (CPP), EnergoPac efficiency rudder, ProTouch propulsion control system, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system and a stern tube with open water lubrication.

“The integrated package approach is very much in demand as the industry moves rapidly towards greater efficiency and decarbonised operations,” commented John Grant, Sales Manager for Newbuildings, UK & Ireland, Wärtsilä Marine. “These three new vessels are equipped with the proven and reliable Wärtsilä 32 main engine. The engine not only optimises fuel consumption, but is also capable of running on a variety of fuel types, while providing a platform for designing engines that are ready for future demands of the fuel vessel market. We look forward to supporting Pritchard-Gordon Tankers with solutions that will complement their fleet renewal program.”

Wärtsilä equipment for the first two vessels will be delivered in 2024 and for the third vessel in 2025 and 2026

The vessels, designed by FKAB Marine Design, are currently under construction at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng Shipyard. The Wärtsilä equipment for the first two vessels is scheduled for delivery in 2024. The technology group booked the order for the outfitting of these two vessels in the third quarter of 2023. The Wärtsilä equipment for the third vessel will be delivered in 2025 and 2026.
