With the “Jolly Verde”, the shipping company Ignazio Messina reaches a “milestone” – the purchased ship is the largest in the company’s history.
With the “Jolly Verde”, the shipping company Ignazio Messina is further expanding its fleet with ships from the former German fleet, thus driving forward the change from ConRo to pure container shipping announced after the entry of MSC.
Following the takeover of several freighters with capacities between 4,380 and 4,600 TEU, Ignazio Messina is now reaching a little higher on the shelf: the full container ship – also formerly operated by a “German shipping group” – has space for 6,300 TEU.
“Jolly Verde” is the largest ship for Ignazio Messina
This makes “Jolly Verde” the largest ship in the shipping company’s history. It is the first of two sister ships intended for traffic to and from the Middle East and India.
With the purchase by Ignazio Messina & C. S.p.A., the “Jolly Verde” is changing flag (previously Portuguese) and will sail under the Italian flag. With a length of 283 m and a width of 40 m, she has a carrying capacity of 80,000 tons.
