Idan Ofer’s shipping group, Eastern Pacific Shipping, is continuing to expand its fleet. In China, the series of 18,000 TEU ships has been increased.
Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) is already one of the largest private shipowners. Now the company owned by the Israeli magnate Idan Ofer is adding to its fleet.
First newbuildings for Idan Ofer to arrive in 2027
Eight newbuildings, each with a capacity of 18,000 TEU, were initially ordered from the Chinese shipyard New Times in July. Just two months later, the options for four more newbuilds that had already been agreed at the time have now been drawn. These units are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2028 and the first quarter of 2029.
The first instalment of eight dual-fuel ships will be delivered between 2027 and 2028. Long-term charter contracts have been signed for them with the French liner shipping company CMA CGM. It was not disclosed whether this also applies to the four subsequent freighters.
Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) currently has a fleet of 51 ships and, with a total capacity of 610,500 TEU, is the No. 3 globally operating tonnage provider behind Canada’s Seaspan (1.9 million TEU) and Shoei Kisen (867,000 TEU). A further 22 ships with 190,000 TEU are in service.
