The South Korean shipping company HMM has announced a weekly liner service that will connect western India directly with northern Europe.
The service is called India North Europe Express (INX) and will start on 5 February with the first departure from Karachi in Pakistan, according to the international news portal Trans.info.
The INX service is a collaboration between HMM and ONE and deploys 6,000-TEU containerships on an 11-week round trip (77 days). The port rotation includes Karachi, Hazira, Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Colombo, London Gateway, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp and back to Karachi.
The new service complements HMM’s existing routes, such as India-Mediterranean (FIM) and India-East Coast of the Americas (IAX). By expanding its network to Northern Europe, HMM aims to meet India’s growing international trade, it says. The service will facilitate regional exports and imports as well as promote global transshipment through India. (rup)
