Hasytec from Kiel sells AI antifouling technology to Greece

The Erma Tech Group from Greece is engaging once again in the German market: The AI-supported antifouling technology from the Kiel-based specialist Hasytec is to expand the portfolio.

The Erma Tech Group has announced the acquisition of the ultrasonic antifouling technology developed by Hasytec and the associated property rights. “This breakthrough technology” expands the portfolio of advanced solutions for the decarbonization of shipping with “Dynamic Biofilm Protection intelligent” (DBPi).

This is an AI-supported ultrasonic antifouling solution designed to prevent the accumulation of marine organisms such as algae and barnacles on the hull. It uses AI-based algorithms to control ultrasonic pulses that keep hull surfaces clean at the earliest stages of biofilm formation, eliminating the need for frequent underwater cleaning or chemical treatments. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

DBPi is currently used to protect critical ship systems, with new applications under development. Its effectiveness has been proven in the commercial shipping, cruise and offshore sectors, according to the Greeks. Erma-Tech President Eleni Polychronopoulou, said: “We are integrating another disruptive technology that reduces emissions, lowers operating costs and improves compliance, further strengthening our growth trajectory.”

This is not the company’s first expansion into the German market. The ballast water specialist RWO from Bremen was already acquired in 2017.

Hasytec’s operations will reportedly remain in Kiel. “We are pleased to announce that Hasytec customers will now benefit from Erma Tech Group’s global network of more than 50 locations and a team of 170 service technicians. We are committed to leveraging Hasytec’s innovative technologies and driving their continuous development,” Polychronopoulou added.
