Harren secures sextet of 8,000-tonne trucks

The Harren Group is continuing to invest heavily in the expansion of heavy lift shipping with six additional vessels for its subsidiary Intermarine.

These are so-called “D-type” vessels of around 8,000 tdw with a length of 120 meters, equipped  with cranes capable of lifting up to 500 tons combined.

As a company spokesperson confirmed to HANSA, five of them have been purchased and another has been taken on long-term charter. The seller and charterer is the Jüngerhans shipping company based in Haren/Ems.

The first freighter, the “Industrial Dolphin” (ex-“BBC Dolphin”, built in 2007), has already been handed over to the Harren Group and is on its way to the US port of Charleston with a cargo of satellites and filter housings for turbines ex Bremen.

The four other ships acquired, “Industrial Destiny” (built in 2006), “Industrial Dawn” (built in 2007), “Industrial Dream” (built in 2007) and “Industrial Dart” (built in 2008), will follow by October, according to the Harren Group.

The sixth vessel in the series chartered by Jüngerhans to Intermarine is the “Industrial Diamond” (built in 2006). All units previously bore the prefix BBC and were employed by the competitor BBC Chartering.

No details were disclosed regarding purchase prices or charter rates. According to reports, there was widespread interest on the market in the ships, which are rare in terms of their dimensions and capacities. Harren CEO Martin Harren describes the new additions as “compact, highly flexible and incredibly efficient”.
