The drive manufacturer Everllence – formerly MAN Energy Solutions – has celebrated the order of its 1,000th ME-GI ship engine together with the Hamburg-based container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd.
During a ceremony at Hapag-Lloyd‘s headquarters in Hamburg, Uwe Lauber, CEO of Everllence, presented a commemorative plaque to Hapag-Lloyd representatives, CEO Rolf Habben Jansen and Silke Lehmköster, Managing Director Fleet, marking the milestone order of a special Everllence B&W ME-GI dual-fuel engine. This engine is the 1,000th ME-GI engine ordered by customers worldwide. The 7G95ME-GI engine is destined for a container ship currently under construction at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding listed under the ship number HIN 1721.
Hapag-Lloyd relies on dual-fuel technology to decarbonize supply chains
Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO Hapag-Lloyd AG, says: “We are proud to reach this milestone together with our partner Everllence. With the order for the 1,000th ME-GI engine, we reaffirm our commitment to the decarbonization of global supply chains. Dual-fuel technologies like the ME-GI are an important step on our journey towards low-emission shipping and support our ambition to drive change across the industry.”
Uwe Lauber adds: “Our ME-GI engine is particularly popular in the container segment. I am therefore delighted that this important milestone has been reached with an order from the renowned container giant Hapag-Lloyd. The shipping industry needs courageous pioneers on the road to net zero, and Hapag-Lloyd is leading by example.”
Lauber continues: “So far in 2025, we have seen a sharp increase in ME-GI orders, as methane is an excellent transition fuel on the way to decarbonizing shipping. ME-GI is particularly efficient and technologically mature. It also boasts the lowest methane slip in the industry. This makes our ME-GI the methane-powered dual-fuel standard engine in the shipping industry. “Since its launch in 2014, the ME-GI engine has established itself in all marine segments.
