The Grimaldi Group has signed a one-year contract with the children’s charity Unicef to facilitate the transportation of aid supplies to Africa.
The sea transportation of at least 80 containers from New York to Dakar will be handled free of charge.
According to a statement, the aim of the partnership is to improve access to essential goods for children and their families in Unicef’s emergency relief and development programs. The sea transportation from New York to Senegal should enable the aid supplies to be distributed more quickly and efficiently.
Unicef relies on support from Grimaldi
“Unicef provides aid to vulnerable children and families worldwide to enable them to live, grow, cope with shocks and rebuild their lives,” said Carmela Pace, President of Unicef Italy. “There is a significant coordination effort behind the aid delivery, which allows us to act promptly and effectively. I would therefore like to thank the Grimaldi Group for its commitment to the children and for supporting Unicef in this important work, which greatly facilitates the implementation of our programs.”
“The Grimaldi Group has always been committed to positive change in the communities in which it operates,” said Gian Luca Grimaldi, CEO of the shipping company. “The partnership with Unicef perfectly complements these activities. By transporting aid containers on our ships free of charge, we are pleased to support important charitable projects for children and families in need, helping to build a better future for them and their communities.”
The family-owned Grimaldi Group operates a fleet of 140 vessels, primarily ro-ro ships, car carriers and ferries. The “Eco Napoli”, the 14th newbuild in the “CG5G” series, was recently completed.
