The Grimaldi Group has added the fifth of six newbuilds ordered from Hyundai in South Korea to its fleet.
The “Grande Casablanca” is the fifth ship in the so-called G5 class. The order was placed with the Hyundai Mipo shipyard.
With a length of 250 metres, a width of 38 metres and a carrying capacity of 45,684 tons, the “Great Casablanca” has the same key data as its sisters. These ships can transport 4,700 linear metres of rolling cargo, 2,500 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) and 2,000 TEU. Compared to the previous G4 class, they have the same capacity for rolling cargo, while the container capacity has doubled.
Grimaldi reduces environmental impact
In addition to its loading capacity, the “Great Casablanca” is characterised by numerous technological solutions to increase energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The result is a significant reduction of CO2 emissions per transported ton by up to 43% compared to other ConRo multipurpose vessels.
“Thanks to our investments, we can offer our customers regular services with high transport capacity while ensuring the highest level of environmental sustainability,” says Gian Luca Grimaldi, President of the Grimaldi Group.
From October next year, the “Great Casablanca” will operate regular services between important ports in Northern Europe and West Africa.
