GFS takes over its own tanker for the first time. The company intends to further expand its presence in West Africa with the unit, which will operate as the “Blue Alliance” in future.
The Copenhagen-based company Global Fuel Supply (GFS) recently acquired its first own tanker. Until now, GFS has operated exclusively with chartered vessels, including the “RLO Explorer”.
Owning its own tanker should increase operational control and flexibility. The vessel, currently named “Atticus”, will be renamed “Blue Alliance” following a technical upgrade in dry dock in Dubai
The planned conversion measures at the shipyard include the installation of a mass flow meter (MFM). The installation is intended to enable precise fuel measurement.
In addition, the ship, which is mainly used in West Africa, will be equipped with a ballast water treatment system. The dry dock program also includes general technical and safety-related work to prepare the vessel for long-term deployment within Global Fuel Supply’s operational framework.
Upon completion of the dry-docking work, the vessel will embark on its maiden voyage from the United Arab Emirates to Luanda. According to GFS, this voyage marks the vessel’s formal entry into service as part of its own fleet and is an important step in further strengthening the company’s existing operational presence in West Africa.
