A total of 5.7 million TEU were moved, an increase of 8.6% (450,000 TEU) compared to the previous year.
For the port of Savannah, it was the second busiest year since records began. In Brunswick, construction has begun on Berth 4 on Colonels Island.
“On behalf of the entire state, I want to congratulate the great team at the Georgia Ports Authority on another great year,” said Gov. Brian Kemp. “Our ports promote economic opportunity in communities across Georgia, and I’m confident this team will continue to deliver strong results for Georgia as a leading economic state.”
Griff Lynch, President and CEO of Georgia Ports, is confident about the years ahead: “Georgia Ports continues to grow its market share on the U.S. East Coast, and with changing trade patterns in Asia and India, that bodes well for our future.”

The volume in Savannah grew by an average of 4.5% in the 2025 financial year to date compared to the 2016 financial year. This is well ahead of the rest of the US container port market, which recorded an average annual growth rate of 2.7% over the same period.
The Port of Savannah, one of the largest container ports on the East Coast, handled 410,400 TEU in June. Overall, Georgia ports handled an average of 475,000 TEUs per month. In March, April and May, the figure even exceeded 500,000 TEU, according to the GPA.
High volumes were also recorded in Brunswick to the south, although the market was volatile in the financial year: 870,775 cars and heavy machinery were handled there, which is roughly unchanged compared to the record year of 2024. Construction of the Colonels Island Berth 4 berth in Brunswick is set to begin this year in order to further increase RoRo capacities. Scheduled to open in 2027, the cost of the expansion is $100 million.
In the last ten years, the GPA has completed port infrastructure projects worth $3.2 billion. Over the next ten years, a further $4.5 billion is planned to expand the ports’ capacity, including five berths for large ships – the largest expansion of any US port. Two of these berths are currently being modernized at Ocean Terminal and are scheduled to open in 2027/2028. The other three berths are planned for the Savannah Container Terminal between 2030 and 2034.
