Marcel Meyer will take over the management of Rhenus Port Transport within the Port Logistics Division from Thomas Maaßen on May 1, 2025.
Philip Tomaskowicz will also be appointed as Managing Director of the inland shipping division. In his current role as CFO Port Logistics, Meyer has already been actively involved in shaping the growth course and internationalization of the Rhenus division. The generational change in Port Transport Management is intended to set the course for further growth and the internationalization of Rhenus Port Logistics.
Marcel Meyer has been responsible for the Port Logistics Division’s finance department since 2023 and is also co-responsible for the LBH Group, which was acquired in 2023. He had previously held various positions within Rhenus since 2018: At Group level, he was in charge of Controlling and set up the M&A department in its current form, among other things. The graduate economist started his career at Deloitte in 2008 and subsequently held management positions at RWE and Innogy. In his new role, Meyer reports directly to Division Head Michael de Reese.
Philip Tomaskowicz takes over inland shipping division
At the same time, Philip Tomaskowicz will take over the management of the inland shipping division within Port Transport, as the previous Managing Director Dirk Gemmer will retire at the end of 2025. Tomaskowicz started his career at Intraha Reederei-Kontor in 2005 after completing his training as a business economist and his studies and joined the Rhenus Group as Head of Shipping at Rhenus Partnership in 2017. In 2023, he became Managing Director of Rhenus Partnership within the inland shipping division.

“This generational change will provide strategic impetus for our further growth. Marcel Meyer brings a high level of expertise in finance, strategy and M&A, which will be wonderfully complemented by Philip Tomaskowicz’s deep understanding of the sector and the market environment,” said Michael de Reese, commenting on the reasons for the reorganization of the management team at Rhenus Transport. “I’m sure that both of them will play a key role in shaping and developing Rhenus’ future course. I would like to thank Thomas Maaßen and Dirk Gemmer on behalf of Rhenus Port Logistics for their many years of successful work and their influence, which have contributed significantly to our success and also to the development of the inland waterway transport sector.”
Rhenus faces transformation
“We are not only facing a transformation as an industry, but also as Rhenus in Europe,” said Meyer. This will not only affect our own sites and our fleet, but also new technology, types of goods and markets. While we have proven our strength in Europe over the last century and will continue to do so, we also want to expand our business knowledge and expertise worldwide and apply it to international flows of goods.”
Thomas Maassen and Dirk Gemmer, who in addition to their management activities also hold other positions in a number of industry associations, committees and associated companies, will continue to do so until further notice.
