The Gemini Cooperation has announced an adjustment to its Asia-Europe service. The alliance consisting of Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk plans to respond proactively to potential bottlenecks in other European ports by adding the Port of Gothenburg to its schedule rotation at the end of August.
This will give Sweden’s largest port an additional direct connection to key markets in Asia. The service is called “AE5” at Maersk and “NE4” at Hapag-Lloyd.
The updated rotation will connect Qingdao, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, London, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Aarhus, Gothenburg, Rotterdam, Tanjung Pelepas and finally Qingdao again.

“I am sure the industry will appreciate the increased choice, including several direct calls as well as alternative services via shuttle and feeder connections. This development strengthens our role as a reliable gateway to world trade and as a guarantor of the industry’s access to global markets,” emphasizes Richard Mellgren, Business Development Manager of the Port of Gothenburg. For Mellgren, the decision by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd demonstrates clear confidence in Sweden’s import and export expertise.
The liner service will also benefit from the so-called “Railport Scandinavia” system, which connects 26 inland terminals across the country.
“Together with our dense liner service network, modern infrastructure and APM Terminals‘ efficient terminal handling, we are ideally positioned to support the further growth of Swedish foreign trade and strengthen the global competitiveness of Swedish companies,” concludes Mellgren.
