Fairplay and Louis Meyer have ordered new tugs from Damen. Three of these are to be delivered this year.
The Damen Shipyards Group has signed several contracts for the delivery of new tugs to Fairplay Towage. Three newbuildings had already been ordered for Fairplay in March, and now another has followed for the new tugboat shipping company Louis Meyer, which also belongs to the Hamburg-based tugboat group.
Three of the vessels, one RSD Tug 2513 and two ASD Tugs 2312, are to be delivered this year. The second RSD Tug 2513 is expected to be handed over at the beginning of 2026. After delivery to Louis Meyer, this newbuild will be used by Fairplay on a long-term bareboat charter.
With this order, the Hamburg-based tugboat shipping company is continuing its fleet renewal. With the latest orders , a total of fifteen vessels have been ordered from Damen in the past five years. There are also four tugs for Louis Meyer.

Fairplay opts for LNG
Although based on proven standard designs, the German clients have selected a number of options for their new tugs, including LNG, fire extinguishing systems (FiFi-1) and winter outfitting, as well as IMO Tier III compliance thanks to Damen Marine’s NOX reduction system.
Once construction is completed at Damen’s shipyards in China and Vietnam, the hulls will arrive in Rotterdam by heavy lift vessel and will then be completed at Damen in the Netherlands.
“The new tugs will not only help us to optimize our operations and increase efficiency, but also underline our commitment to sustainable technologies,” says Philip Harmstorf, Managing Director of the Fairplay Towage Group.
Damen operates 35 shipyards and 20 other companies in 20 countries and builds around 100 ships a year with a total production value of over €3 billion.
