The world’s No. 7 continues to work through its large order book: Evergreen has taken delivery of the container ship “Ever World”, the last ship in a series of eleven. However, the newbuilding spree is far from over.
The 2,373 TEU ship “Ever World” was recently delivered to the Taiwan-based liner shipping company by the Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Wenchong (GWS). She is No. 11 and thus the last newbuilding in a series that is listed as Maxi-Bangkokmax (M-BKX) by the industry service Alphaliner. Evergreen itself refers to the ships as the “Ever W” class.
The ships were ordered in 2021, with brokers quoting a price of USD 40 million each at the time. The order was part of a larger initiative that also included eleven 3,200 TEU and two 1,800 TEU units. The first two ships of the new type were commissioned under the names “Ital Way” and “Ital Wit” for the subsidiary Italia Marittima and are the only ones of the series to be deployed in the Mediterranean, as Alphaliner stated in its latest report. The other newbuildings operate in intra-Asia traffic.
With 1.94 million TEU and 238 ships – 161 of which are “own” – Evergreen currently has a market share of 5.8% in container liner shipping, according to Alphaliner. This puts the Taiwanese company in 7th place in the global market, just behind ONE (6.1%) and ahead of HMM (3.1%). However, with 43.8% of the fleet, the order book is significantly larger than that of its “neighboring” competitors. In the “Top 10”, only CMA CGM has a larger newbuilding list to work through with 45.4%.
At Evergreen, there are still 54 ships with a total of around 850,000 TEU that will be integrated into the fleet in the coming years. This also includes ships from the largest classes with 24,000 TEU, which were only ordered this year.
“Ever World” and her sisters are 172 m long and 32.20 m wide, have a carrying capacity of 27,900 tons and a draught of 10.20 m. It is powered by a MAN B&W G60ME-C10.5 main engine. Three 1,500 kW generators supply power for up to 250 refrigerated containers.
