The Supervisory Board of Ernst Russ AG has appointed Joseph Schuchmann (30) as a new member of the Executive Board.
Schuchmann’s term of office begins on 1 December and will initially run until the end of 2026. According to Ernst Russ, Joseph Schuchmann has excellent market knowledge thanks to his training as a shipping merchant, a Master’s degree in Shipping from CASS Business School and several years of professional experience in European shipping companies.
Joseph Schuchmann comes from a long-established shipping family. His father Jan-Wilhelm Schuchmann was head of the Hamburg-based tug shipping company Bugsier for many years, which was sold to Fairplay in 2017.
After training with Peter Döhle, the 30-year-old worked at F. Laeisz and most recently at Gram Car Carriers, according to his LinkedIn profile. The Management Board previously included Robert Gärtner (CEO) and Thomas Deutsch as Head of Finance.
Ernst Russ has a fleet of 29 ships
Ernst Russ AG, with Hamburg-based shipping group Döhle as its largest shareholder, is a listed international shipping company and maritime investment manager based in Hamburg. Parts of the company’s history date back to 1893 and the group currently manages a fleet of 29 ships, some of which it operates with strategic partners.
The focus is on container ships in the 700 to 4,200 TEU size classes, supplemented by two larger container ships with around 6,600 TEU and 13,400 TEU respectively, as well as a 38,000 dwt handysize bulker and a multipurpose ship.
