The latest shortsea freighter “Nossan” has been launched at the Ferus Smit shipyard for the Swedish shipping group Erik Thun.
This is the third ship in the “Lake Vänern Max” series. The “Nossan”, at the Westerbroek site of the shipyard group, which is also active in Leer, continues a legacy that began in 1989 with the construction of the first ship to bear this name. “This latest ship, the 46th ship from the same shipbuilder”, is designed to optimize the transport of goods on the Swedish and European inland and coastal waterways.
Erik Thun fleet with MPP, drybulk and tanker newbuildings
The ships on order include tankers from the “Resource” series. The shipping company, owned by the Källsson family since 1938, operates a fleet of MPP and drybulk ships and tankers via various subsidiaries.
Most recently, the “Nossan” sister “Spiken” was delivered – a plug-in hybrid drybulk carrier with a length of 89 m and 5,100 tdw. Erik Thun is receiving a total of six sisters from the “Lake Vanern Max” series. It represents “a significant leap forward in maritime technology and meets our customers’ top priorities in terms of fuel efficiency, electrical innovation and maximum cargo capacity”.
Equipped with a hybrid propulsion system, the “Lake Vanern Max” design relies on both battery power and conventional fuel to optimize energy consumption and reduce emissions. The battery system is designed to enable peak shaving and better consumption optimization. Thanks to the possibility of a shore connection, it can also be operated silently and emission-free in port.
