EPS orders 12 LNG feeders

The shipping company Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) is expanding its footprint in the feeder market.

According to broker and shipyard sources, the Singapore-based shipowner, led by Israeli entrepreneur Idan Ofer, has placed firm orders for twelve 1,800 TEU boxships with Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in China. The deal also includes options for six additional units. The total package is reportedly valued at up to USD 680 million.

Market sources suggest the newbuilds will feature LNG dual-fuel propulsion systems. The vessels are believed to be linked to French liner giant CMA CGM, which already operates container ships owned by EPS.

This latest order at Mawei follows a recent EPS contract for six similarly sized ships with China Merchants Jinling, underscoring the company’s strategic push toward modern, environmentally efficient feeder designs—driven by sustained demand in short-sea trades.

Highest activity in the feeder segment

The container market continued last week’s trend, with the feeder segment leading in transaction volume. Larger vessel classes have also picked up momentum as carriers prepare for the post-summer shipping surge.

Reports from liner operators indicate healthy global volumes in the first half of the year, particularly on trade lanes excluding the U.S. In the post-Panamax sector, several deals are nearing completion, with delivery timelines extending into 2026. Although specific details remain undisclosed, demand in this segment is strong, and multiple carriers are showing active interest.

Industry experts forecast stable market conditions over the coming weeks, supported by tightening tonnage availability and steady cargo flows.
