Elbdeich has ordered two more 1,250 TEU feeders from the Chinese Wenchong shipyard (GWS). These are two options from a previous order.
According to broker reports, the Elbdeich shipping company is using two options that had already been agreed in an order for two identical feeders at the beginning of October last year. These are ships with dual-fuel engines that will also be able to run on methanol in the future. [ds_preview]
The capacity of the newbuildings is 1,250 TEU each. Construction numbers 1 and 2 have long-term charter contracts with the feeder operator Unifeeder. Delivery is scheduled for September and October 2026, around three and six months respectively after delivery of the first ship in the series.
The newbuilds have been specially designed for Northern European regional transport, are therefore ice-classed and can transport a larger number of pallet-wide intermodal containers.
Elbdeich shipping company takes delivery of ten newbuildings
The Elbdeich shipping company, managed by Jens Moje, ordered two LNG-powered 1,400 TEU newbuildings from Penglai Jinglu in China just over a year and a half ago, followed by the first two ships from Wenchong. This brings the total number of newbuildings ordered to ten feeder vessels.
These Penglai freighters are to be delivered as early as this year. The price is expected to be around 30 million dollars. According to brokers, multi-year charter contracts have been signed for four units with the liner newcomers Ellerman and Tailwind Shipping Lines (Lidl).
Despite the similarity, the X-Press ships are said to be a design by the German design office Technolog, while the Unifeeder ships are said to be Sdari types.
Elbdeich Reederei is part of the United Shipping Companies (USC) Barnkrug group, which currently has a fleet of 28 feeder vessels. At the helm are the managing directors Peter Frese and Jens Moje.
