DP World plans to invest $5 billion in India

The Arabian port and logistics group DP World plans to invest an additional $5 billion in India to further expand its integrated supply chain network across the country.

Over the past three decades, the company has already invested around $3 billion in developing maritime infrastructure, multimodal connections and logistics solutions. DP World currently operates at more than 200 locations in India and employs over 24,000 people. The new investments aim to strengthen the company’s footprint and enhance India’s competitiveness in global trade.

The latest commitment was announced during India Maritime Week 2025, where DP World also signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Sarbananda Sonowal, India’s Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, attended the signing ceremony. The partnerships are intended to promote key areas of the maritime sector and stimulate employment and economic growth.

“DP World has been part of India’s success story for almost three decades. With these new investments and partnerships, we are reaffirming our commitment to expanding the country’s maritime and logistics infrastructure,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World. The measures are intended to reduce logistics costs, strengthen local production and improve market access throughout the country.

The agreements cover key areas such as green coastal shipping, shipbuilding, ship repair, skills development and advanced cargo mobility. Among others, Unifeeder, a DP World subsidiary, and Sagarmala Finance Corporation aim to develop sustainable coastal shipping services. Cochin Shipyard and Drydocks World are planning to expand the international ship repair facilities in Kochi. In addition, Cochin Shipyard, Drydocks World and the Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding have signed an agreement to promote shipbuilding training. In addition, the Cochin Port Authority and DP World want to modernize the port infrastructure in Kerala. Together with the Deendayal Port Authority and Nevomo (MagRail), the construction of a 750 m long test track for an automated, low-emission transportation system is also planned.
