Döhle increases stake in shipping company Ernst Russ

The Döhle family has acquired additional shares in the Hamburg shipping company Ernst Russ. Both Jan and Jost Döhle have increased their individual holdings.

The Döhle Group remains the largest shareholder in Ernst Russ AG. While the family previously held a combined total of 54% in the company, their stake has now risen to 75.3%, according to financial documents published by the industry service Alphaliner. The Döhle Group itself, which is controlled by the family, continues to be the largest single shareholder with a 38.5% stake. This development reduces the free float to below 25%.

Ernst Russ AG owns a fleet of 25 container vessels ranging in capacity from 679 to 13,400 TEU, as well as one bulker and one multipurpose vessel. The company has also invested in four RoRo ships. Ernst Russ does not operate the vessels itself but works with strategic partners, including the Döhle Group. The company recently made headlines due to an incident involving the container ship “Solong“.

Some time ago, Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG—also part of the group—placed an order for two post-Panamax newbuildings, following another order placed in China last summer. These were the company’s first new ship orders in nine years.
