DNV Maritime appoints Chief Operating Officer for the first time

Classification society DNV has appointed Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria as Chief Operating Officer (COO), a newly created position within the company, effective 1 January 2025. 

“The maritime industry is becoming increasingly complex, from its operating environment to the growing network of different stakeholders it interacts with,” says Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO of DNV Maritime. “To meet these challenges and seize new opportunities, the new COO strengthens our leadership team and ensures that we are well positioned to meet evolving business needs.”

Saenz de Santa Maria to streamline communication and coordination

In her new role, Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, who will be based in Singapore, will streamline communication and coordination between the regional teams and central functions, work closely with key customers globally and strengthen operational capabilities in key growth markets.

With DNV since completing her master’s degree in 2005

Since joining DNV in 2005, Saenz de Santa Maria has gained extensive experience in the marine industry, working as a marine surveyor and project manager in newbuilding and operations in Spain, Portugal, South Korea and Norway. She has also held several senior positions in Norway, Africa and Singapore, most recently as Regional Manager for South East Asia, the Pacific and India. Saenz de Santa Maria holds a Master of Science in Naval Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain, which she obtained in 2005. She also holds an MBA from the IE Business School in Madrid.
