The latest newbuilding from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, the “Disney Treasure”, has been successfully transferred to the North Sea in perfect weather conditions.
Accompanied by many onlookers along the Ems dyke, the approximately 40 km long passage of the Ems was carried out backwards with the help of a tugboat. The 345-metre-long cruise ship is now moored in Eemshaven in the Netherlands, where further outfitting work will now take place. The first sea trials will also start from there.
The official handover to the shipping company will then take place in October or early November. However, this will take place in Eemshaven and not at Columbuskaje in Bremerhaven, as has been the case several times in the past.
Off to the Caribbean for the “Disney Treasure”
After the handover, the cruise ship will set course across the Atlantic towards the USA, where its maiden voyage to the Caribbean will start on 21 December. The “Disney Treasure” will set sail from Port Canaveral on week-long cruises to the Western and Eastern Caribbean during the inaugural season.
The “Disney Treasure” is the second cruise ship in the Triton class. The type ship, the “Disney Wish“, has been sailing for Disney Cruise Line since 2022, the third ship “Disney Destiny” will follow in 2025. A fourth ship in this class is destined for the Japanese market and was recently ordered by the Oriental Land Company.
The cruise ship, which is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), offers space for up to 4,000 passengers on its 15-passenger decks. There are casinos, a theatre, several cinemas and restaurants on board. One of the highlights is the Aqua Mouse, a water rollercoaster slide in an inflatable boat.
