Meyer Werft delivers its latest newbuild six days earlier than planned. It is the “Disney Treasure” for the US customer.
There had been delays with the previous deliveries. This time, the shipyard has even managed to hand over the ship ahead of schedule. The handover to Disney Cruise Line took place six days earlier than originally planned.
“We have all put a lot of heart and soul and passion into the ‘Disney Treasure‘,” says Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Werft. Together with Bernard Meyer and Thomas Mazloum, President Disney Signature Experiences, he signed the delivery documents.
Disney focuses on entertainment on board
The “Disney Treasure” reportedly has the most complex and innovative entertainment facilities in the cruise industry. These include a theatre restaurant inspired by Pixar’s “Coco”, a Broadway adaptation of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Moana” and an all-new selection of Disney Parks-inspired lounges for adults, such as the first “Haunted Mansion” themed bar.
Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the 340-metre-long cruise ship (144,000 GT) can accommodate up to 4,000 passengers on its 15-passenger decks.
Meyer Werft and Disney Cruise Line have a long-standing partnership that began with the “Disney Dream” and “Disney Fantasy” in 2010 and 2012. The “Disney Wish“, the first ship in the class of the same name, was delivered in 2022. The third sister ship in the series, the “Disney Destiny”, is already under construction in Papenburg and is scheduled for completion in 2025. At the same time, Meyer Werft in Wismar is working on the completion of the former “Global Dream“, which is to be launched as the Disney Adventure.
In August, it was announced that Disney Cruise Line intends to have four more ships built in Papenburg, which will be delivered between 2027 and 2031. Meyer Werft’s order book currently includes ten cruise ships, one research vessel and four offshore converter platforms. This will keep the company busy until 2031.
