“Disney Destiny” sets sail ahead of schedule

Papenburg-based Meyer Werft has delivered the “Disney Destiny” to Disney Cruise Line. After “Disney Dream”, “Disney Fantasy”, “Wish” and “Treasure”, she is already the fifth cruise ship that the shipyard has built for Disney.

Meyer Werft delivered the “Disney Destiny” yesterday, two weeks earlier than originally planned. According to the shipyard, the ship built for Disney Cruise Line has the “most complex and innovative” entertainment facilities in the cruise industry. The first passengers will board in December.

The two companies have a long-standing partnership. It began with the construction of the “Disney Dream” and the “Disney Fantasy”, which were delivered in 2010 and 2012. The “Disney Wish”, the first ship in the Wish class, was delivered in 2022. Another sister ship is currently under construction in Papenburg and is scheduled for delivery in fall 2027. The shipyard’s order book thus comprises eight cruise ships and two offshore converter platforms and extends until 2031.

“We are delighted to hand over the ‘Disney Destiny’ to Disney Cruise Line today. This is another milestone in our long-standing partnership with Disney Cruise Line. I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone involved,” said Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Werft. Eikens signed the handover papers together with Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences.

On board the “Disney Destiny”, families can expect mythical adventures where the legendary heroes and villains of Disney, Pixar and Marvel are brought to life. Disney Hercules can be seen exclusively on the Disney Destiny. Larger-than-life characters, spirited comedy and legendary music from the Walt Disney Animation Studios will be brought to the stage. There is also fun and action on the upper deck, where there are ten pools and water play areas. There are several imaginative restaurants on board, including “Pride Lands”, where singers and dancers perform a musical retelling of “The Lion King” during dinner.
