Benjamin Ahrens has joined the management of wind power company Deutsche Windguard Consulting.
The 36-year-old is now managing the company based in Varel, Lower Saxony, together with the long-standing Managing Director Axel Albers. Among other things, Deutsche Windguard specializes in prototype tests on wind turbines, wind measurements and site assessments.
Ahrens brings a Master’s degree in Engineering Physics with a focus on wind energy from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg to his new position. He also has experience on the manufacturer side: expertise in the areas of project management, power curve measurements and prototype tests from his professional station in research and development at Enercon strengthened the solid foundation for his start at Deutsche Windguard in 2019. After around one and a half years as an experienced project engineer in the field of power curve and wind measurements, Ahrens took over as deputy manager in mid-2021. From January 2023, he also initiated the extensive reorganization of the company’s own measurement technology workshop as its new head.
Deutsche Windguard sets course for the future
“With Benjamin Ahrens, we were able to inspire a highly motivated and excellently suited expert from our own ranks to take on responsibility as Managing Director,” says Axel Albers. As a co-founder of the Deutsche Windguard group of companies, it is important to the 59-year-old to “set the course for the future at an early stage” and to utilize the potential of the younger generation in particular.
“As a DAkkS-accredited testing and calibration laboratory, Deutsche Windguard Consulting has played a leading role in shaping key developments, innovations and standards from the very beginning,” adds Benjamin Ahrens, “our expertise and services, for example in the areas of power curve, noise and load measurement, wind potential, energy yield and site assessment or in operational data analysis for evaluating the performance of onshore and offshore wind farms, are already in demand worldwide and enjoy the highest level of recognition. One of our major goals for the coming years is to align and supplement them even better with the needs of our customers, while at the same time equipping ourselves for the constantly changing requirements of the market.”
Albers and Ahrens will therefore continuously support their numerous teams of experts in further adapting current tools and processes in order to network internal knowledge even better and respond more effectively to external challenges. In 2025, Deutsche WindGuard will also commission new LiDAR calibration sites and significantly intensify its cooperation with various partners in the Asian-Australian market.
