Significantly more calls and cruise passengers are expected in Stockholm again this year.
More than 130 calls are planned for the new season, which runs until October. Aida Cruises calls at the port most frequently.
Compared to the two previous years, the port of Stockholm is once again well utilized this year. A total of 136 calls are expected, compared to 119 in 2024. The number of passengers is also increasing significantly: 256,000 guests will visit Stockholm – a good 30% more than in 2024. This means that even the “boom” in 2022 will be surpassed; at that time, there were significantly more calls with 205 ships, but slightly fewer guests.
“Aidamar” docks in Stockholm for the first time
Many ships are docking in Stockholm for the first time, including a new cruise line. The season started in Stockholm on April 22 with the arrival of the “Aidamar”. The ship is expected to return to the Swedish capital several times during the course of the year – a total of 14 times. Aida Cruises leads the season with 31 calls, no other brand is in Stockholm more often.
“We are delighted about the general increase in cruise traffic in the Baltic Sea. Most of the ships are fully booked,” says Stefan Scheja, Marketing Manager Ferries and Cruises at Ports of Stockholm. Cruise ships and their passengers make an “important contribution” to the city and the region.
Of the total calls, 41 are so-called “turnaround” calls, where the ships change their passengers. These are particularly important for the tourism industry in Stockholm, as the passengers usually spend one or two extra nights in the city. Around half of all calls can now use shore-side electricity. This is intended to reduce emissions and noise in the city.
The largest ship of the season is the 145,000 GT “Sky Princess”, built by Fincantieri. It shares the title of longest ship with the “Britannia” – both measure 330 meters. The smallest ship is the “Clio” with 3,504 GT and a length of 100 m, while the “Hebridean Sky” is the shortest at just 90 m.
The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is celebrating its debut in Stockholm with its new ship “Ilma”. Another new addition is the “Vista”, which will call at Stockholm twice in 2025. Both ships belong to the premium cruise segment.
