The French shipping company CMA CGM has joined forces with the internet giant Google.
The aim of both companies is to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence worldwide. The shipping company CMA CGM hopes to increase efficiency in several ways.
It will be used, among other things, to optimise routes and shorten delivery times. Intelligent programs will also support the shipping company in handling containers. In addition to cost savings, the aim is to reduce CO2 emissions.

According to Reuters, Rodolphe Saadé, Managing Director of CMA CGM, described the partnership as a “decisive step” in the company’s strategy to become more digital and sustainable. Google’s infrastructure and data expertise is an ideal tool for this.
“By combining CMA CGM’s extensive expertise in shipping and logistics with Google’s AI tools and secure infrastructure, we can help digitally transform its own operations and those of its customers,” said Google CEO Sundar Pichai. “This partnership is a prime example of how AI can empower employees, improve outcomes for customers and revolutionise industries.”
The shipping company’s media division, CMA Media, which has a stake in the French private broadcaster M6 and bought the leading French news channel BFM TV earlier this year, is also benefiting from the development of AI. New programs are designed to help journalists synthesise and translate documents, create content for social media and facilitate the digitisation of archives.
Google is not the only partner that the French shipping company has brought on board to develop AI. CMA CGM also recently announced a partnership with the company Pasqal, a developer of quantum computers.
