Japanese classification society ClassNK will concentrate on shipping’s need to reduce GHG emissions at SMM 2024, with specific focus on its portfolio of ClassNK Transition Support Services.
»The comprehensive menu of solutions can be tailored to the needs of individual shipping clients to support transition to zeroemission operations«, the company states. Representatives from the ClassNK will offer SMM visitors a full explanation of the Transition Support Services, which focus on three types of GHG emissions reduction measures: the introduction of alternative fuels ships, energy efficiency improvement technologies, and the use of onboard CCS, from the perspective of considering customers’ needs and the implementation of the optimal solutions.
As part of efforts to support these services, ClassNK published »ClassNK Alternative Fuel Insight« to offer guidance relating to future fuel selection, with the characteristics of and latest trends in alternative fuels »summarized in an easyto-understand manner«. Regardless of these forward-looking measures, ship owners and managers must monitor GHG emissions today, using a suitable management tool.
To address this, ClassNK provides an MRV Portal for regulatory compliance such as IMO-DCS/EU MRV/EU-ETS/FuelEU Maritime and CII rating as well as ClassNK ZETA for visualizing and effectively managing GHG emissions. The Japanese are working together with stakeholders to tackle the decarbonization challenges facing the global maritime industries by expanding its services beyond conventional class services with the slogan »Charting the future«.
