The Board of Directors of the German Shipowners’ Association (VDR) has re-elected the current President, Gaby Bornheim. The Executive Committee is changing.
Bornheim will hold the top office at the VDR for a further three years until 2027. As Managing Director, the lawyer has been jointly responsible for the successful management of Reederei Peter Döhle, one of Germany’s largest shipping companies, for many years.
“I would like to thank you very much for the trust you have once again placed in me. The challenges remain great: the effects of geopolitical conflicts will continue to challenge us, and the efforts to transform shipping towards climate neutrality must be continued and intensified,” said Bornheim after her re-election.
Bornheim wants to attract more young talent
At the same time, it is crucial that German shipowners remain internationally competitive and are able to continuously attract young talent to our industry. These goals are to be pursued further in the coming years with our member companies and targeted impulses are to be set, explained Bornheim.
In addition to the President, the Executive Committee was also newly elected. Thomas Rehder, Managing Director of the long-established Hamburg-based company Carsten Rehder, and Peter Oltmann, Head of Schiffahrtsgesellschaft Oltmann in Stade, stepped down. Peter Bagh, COO of the Lübeck-based shipping company Oldendorff, and Stefan Jüngerhans, Managing Partner of the Haren-based shipping company Jüngerhans, were newly elected.
The Executive Committee also includes Maximilian Rothkopf (COO of Hapag-Lloyd AG), Nikolaus H. Schües (owner of Reederei F. Laeisz GmbH) and Arnt Vespermann (Managing Director of CPO Containerschiffsreederei).
The VDR was founded in 1907 and merged with the Association of German Coastal Ship Owners in 1994. With around 200 members, the VDR represents the largest part of the German merchant fleet.
