There has been a change in management at Danish transport and logistics company Blue Water. Thomas Bek is taking over as CEO with immediate effect from Søren Nørgaard Thomsen, who is leaving the company after seven years.
Under Thomsen’s leadership, Blue Water has developed significantly since 2018: Sales have almost doubled, earnings have increased and the number of employees has grown to 2,700 at almost 80 locations worldwide. The Esbjerg-based company has initiated a new strategy and reorganization in 2025, which should enable further growth in the global transport and logistics market in the coming years.
“Søren has strengthened and shaped Blue Water over the past seven years. Nevertheless, we have come to the conclusion that a different profile is required to implement the new strategy,” explained Chairman of the Supervisory Board Jørgen Wisborg.
Bek, who has been with the company for 29 years and was most recently COO of the Energy, Ports & Projects division, began his career in 1996 as an apprentice freight forwarder. According to Wisborg, he has extensive commercial, operational and financial knowledge of the business.
On taking up his new position, Bek emphasized that he wanted to preserve and further develop the company’s culture and values together with the Skov family and employees. “I am proud and grateful for the trust placed in me and will do my best to continue Blue Water’s positive development,” said Bek.
Another focus of the company is the topic of carbon storage. With the support of the Danish government and the EU, the company is working on a project involving a ship. For the “regular” project logistics services, Blue Water relies primarily on charter ships.
