The German company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has joined SEA-LNG. This cross-sector industry coalition is committed to promoting LNG as a marine fuel.
According to SEA-LNG, BSM brings a wealth of operational experience to the coalition. The company manages more than 100 gas tankers, over half of which are LNG tankers. BSM also manages almost 30 LNG dual-fuel vessels and two LNG bunker vessels.
All vessels managed by BSM are subject to Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) inspections to ensure compliance with international requirements. The entire coalition will benefit from such a safe fleet, the statement said. It is also worth noting that BSM has its own LNG training facilities and operates centres of excellence where the company offers consultancy services on LNG issues.
Bernhard Schulte “is committed to LNG”
“At BSM, we are committed to LNG as a marine fuel,” said Nick Topham, Managing Director of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Germany. “It is a proven, technically mature solution that is already in use on many ships and offers a fully developed supply and bunker infrastructure. SEA-LNG provides an important network for the exchange of ideas and the pooling of expertise with other players in order to jointly drive forward LNG-related projects.”
Peter Keller, Chairman of SEA-LNG, said: “BSM joining is an important milestone for SEA-LNG. We welcome our first ship manager to the coalition, who brings valuable insight and many years of experience with LNG as a marine fuel. BSM has been a leader in the operational use of LNG for decades, with no major safety incidents in port or at sea, ensuring safe operations for seafarers today.”
LNG is the right shipping technology to realise a low-risk, step-by-step path to net-zero emissions by 2050. This year, several companies have joined the SEA LNG Coalition, recognizing LNG as a practical, lower-emission marine fuel.
