Autonomous navigation: Anschütz presents new product line

Anschütz has introduced Autonomics, a new product line for autonomous navigation and mission automation. The system is designed to make unmanned and manned ships safer, more efficient and more versatile.

German navigation specialist Anschütz has officially launched its new product line for autonomous navigation and mission automation under the name Anschütz Autonomics. The announcement follows a series of successful demonstrations.

“Anschütz Autonomics represents true innovation in the field of unmanned operations in maritime security, defense and commercial operations,” said Andreas Weidner, CEO of Anschütz GmbH. “The system is scalable – from assistance systems to highly automated solutions, and from the monitoring and control of unmanned surface vessels to the automation of large manned ships. It offers real added value in numerous application areas.”

Anschütz Autonomics is based on certified and operationally proven components. It enables safe and precise autonomous navigation and automated tactical operations that can be monitored and remotely controlled from land-based control centers.

The system consists of two central elements. The SYNAPSIS Autonomics Navigation Suite enhances existing integrated navigation systems with optical target tracking, collision avoidance navigation according to COLREGs and advanced motion control for precise maneuvering and positioning. SYNTACS Autonomics automates mission execution – including threat and doctrine management, tactical behavior and payload integration.

Together, Anschütz Autonomics offers a wide range of functions, according to the manufacturer, including

  • High-precision lane and speed control
  • Dynamic collision avoidance according to COLREGs
  • Targeted interception and reconnaissance maneuvers
  • Automated tracking and escorting of valuable or suspicious targets
  • Data fusion into a uniform situation picture
  • Complete remote control from mobile tactical centers

Beyond commercial applications, Anschütz Autonomics also enables software-based defense operations and offers high flexibility for the autonomous execution of various maritime missions. It is designed for sophisticated intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations and can also be used to track suspicious targets, escort valuable units or perform underwater operations such as mine detection.

According to Anschütz, the system has already been successfully tested in cooperation with German Naval Yards and CMN in France and most recently with the German Navy. During these tests, unmanned surface vessels performed precise high-speed maneuvers, avoided obstacles and intercepted targets – all remotely controlled from a command center.

Since joining the CAPTN initiative in 2023, Anschütz technology has also successfully completed more than 250 autonomous collision avoidance maneuvers on the Kiel Fjord under real operational conditions.
