The Turkish shipping company Arkas has ordered six more container ships in China. The financing partner is CIMC Financial Leasing.
The country’s largest container shipping company has ordered a total of six Panamax ships. They will each have a capacity of 4,300 TEU and will be built by Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard, part of the CSSC Group, by 2027.
The price is quoted at US$60m per ship – making a total of US$360m. CIMC Financial Leasing Shenzhen Qianhai will provide most of the financing under a leasing agreement.
Arkas ends order pause
Arkas placed an order for four ships in April. It was the first newbuilding order after an eight-year break. Options have now been taken out for two more ships.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin approximately every two months from February 2028. These newbuilds will then be the largest ships in the fleet, which currently consists of 34 container ships, six small tankers and one supramax bulker.
Alphaliner lists the Turkish container shipping company in 32nd place worldwide. The capacity of the fleet is a good 55,000 TEU.
