The Hamburg organization “Der Hafen hilft” has once again received a large donation. This time it was well-preserved furniture from the cruise ship “Aidadiva”.
The cruise ship was docked at the Chantier Naval shipyard in Marseille from February 3 to March 22. During this time, more than 4,400 pieces of furniture were donated to “Der Hafen hilft”.
According to Aida Cruises, armchairs, chairs and stools from the restaurants, lounges and the Theatrium were handed over, while the “Aidadiva” received new furniture.
“Together with the team from ‘Der Hafen hilft‘ and Daimler Truck AG, we loaded the donated furniture in three phases during the shipyard period of ‘Aidadiva’. Many helping hands were involved in handing over the donation in kind to the association, which then transported the furniture to Germany, Poland and Ukraine. It is a great feeling to know that we can help people in need with our well-preserved furniture. We are very much looking forward to continuing our cooperation with ‘Der Hafen hilft’, as we have many more great evolution projects in the pipeline and are constantly expanding our commitment to sustainability at AIDA Cruises,” says Marc Spingler, Director Hotel Maintenance Dry Docks & Refit at AIDA Cruises.
Aida crew lends a hand
Thanks to the commitment of the “Aidadiva” crew, the logistics of taking over the furniture could be seamlessly integrated into the tightly scheduled shipyard plans, according to Aida Cruises.
The pieces of furniture from “Aidadiva” were passed on to the Ukrainian Civil Defense, for example, via the organization. The Reso Center animal shelter in Neu Wulmstorf, Lower Saxony, also received donations. The seating furniture was used to open a donation café with a lounge area. Furniture was also presented to the German Red Cross in Büchen and the SOS Children’s Villages.
In future, the Rostock cruise line intends to continue working with “Der Hafen hilft” and expand its cooperation.
